Toyota appoint Dernie
August 30th 2007 01:42
Toyota snapped up experienced engineer Frank Dernie yesterday, as part of plans to bolster their engineering department.
The Englishman was appointed as a senior advisor, working on the development of the team’s aerodynamic and chassis-related programs.
Dernie has over 30 years of Formula One experience, and has worked for Lola, Benetton, Arrows and most recently, Williams.
“We are delighted to welcome Frank to the team," stated Executive Vice President Yoshiaki Kinoshita.
"He has a tremendous amount of experience in Formula 1 and, as we are a relatively young team, this will help us move closer to our goals,” he said.
“We are continually striving to improve and I am sure Frank will make a positive contribution.”
The appointment is a sign that Toyota are seeking to invigorate their technical team, operating under Senior General Manager Chassis Pascal Vasselon, for an improved championship campaign in 2008.
Toyota currently sit seventh in the championship, with a dissapointing12 points - light years away from the 88 points scored in the 2005 season.
With pressure from the paymasters in Tokyo building, a sharp upturn in performance is desperately needed.
