Silverstone Days 1 & 2: Toyota on top

Day 1
Toyota’s under-fire Ralf Schumacher ended the first day of Silverstone testing on top, ahead of both McLaren and Ferrari testers, Pedro de la Rosa and Luca Badoer.
Schumacher clocked a 1min22.794, to go one-tenth quicker than Pedro de la Rosa who was on duty for McLaren.
Behind the Spaniard was Red Bull’s Mark Webber, who was evaluating a new aero update as well as tyre comparisons for the upcoming French and British grands prix.
Heikki Kovalainen was fourth for Renault, completing various aero and tyre comparisons.
Ferrari tester Luca Badoer was next, nearly a second behind Schumacher.
The Italian completed 57 laps for the Scuderia, working mainly on set-up.
Nick Heidfeld was sixth, testing aero, tyre and mechanical updates for BMW, before ending his day early due to slight back pain.
Toro Rosso’s Tonio Liuzzi ended the day seventh fastest, after arriving late due to flight delays from Indianapolis.
The Italian focused on improving the team’s quick-shift gearbox, as well as set-up duty and tyre comparisons.
Japanese tester, Kazuki Nakajima set the eighth fastes time, after completing a mammoth 124 laps in his Williams FW29.
Bringing up the bottom of the timesheets, was Spyker’s testing duo of Adrian Valles and Guido van der Garde, who shared the duty of testing the teams new F8-VII-04 chassis, especially focussing on control and brake systems.

Day 2
Jarno Trulli maintained Toyota’s reign at the top of the Silverstone testing timesheets, clocking fastest on a rain-interrupted day two.
The Italian completed 48 laps, setting a benchmark of 1min 21.420, completing set-up duties and some engine work on his TF107.
Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen managed second place for Ferrari, as he worked on a new aero update for the F2007.
Alex Wurz was third-quickest for Williams, also working on aero upgrades as well as various set-up solutions for the forthcoming grands prix.
Pedro de la Rosa was in action again for McLaren, continuing on development work and going fourth fastest after completing 58 laps.
Heikki Kovalainen too, completed his second day of duty, but suffered a delay due to engine problems with his Renault R27.
The Finn still managed to clock fifth fastest and will make way for Nelson Piquet Jr tomorrow.
Vitantonio Liuzzi was able complete a full days testing for Toro Rosso, working on brake materials and aero package optimisation for the next few races.
The Italian was sixth fastest, ahead of Red Bull’s Mark Webber who suffered two engine-related problems, which limited the Australian’s running to just 33 laps.
BMW tester, Timo Glock completed 84 laps in his F1.07, working mostly on suspension and aero development as well as tyre comparisons.
Spyker’s Adrian Sutil propped up the rear of the timesheets, continuing the evaluation of the team’s new chassis.
