Life imitates art at McLaren

A new ad from Mercedes that features McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso puts a light-hearted spin on what we almost certainly know is a bitter rivalry.
The ad was filmed at the end of June, which was after the North American rounds, where the first signs of a rift between the drivers emerged.
In that context the ad seemed an effective way to flip what was then thought a minor spat into a tale of an equally-footed, competitive rivalry.
In a making of, Alonso claims: “It is quite extreme, because we are not like this every day.”
But now, with the events of the Hungarian Grand Prix still fresh in our memory, I’m not so sure…
