Kelly is champ! - cop that Lowndes, you whinger!

Congratulations to Rick Kelly for winning his first ever V8 Supercar championship for Holden.
After a nail-biting finish to the season at Philip Island last weekend, Kelly emerged as champion over Ford’s Craig Lowndes, but not without controversy.
Early in the final race, Kelly out-braked himself and ran into the back of Lowndes causing the two to collide. Kelly continued on, whilst Lowndes suffered damage that dogged him for the rest of the race. Kelly was immediately handed a drive through penalty for the incident. Kelly ended up finishing 18th, whereas Lowndes limped to a lowly 29th place finish.
Understandably bitter, Lowndes and his team complained after the race, and the matter was dismissed by the stewards, and Kelly was crowned champion.
Still bitter, Lowndes and team called upon a higher adjudication committee, where a four hour hearing concluded that Rick Kelly’s penalty was sufficient to the crime – and he is the rightful champion.
Damn straight. All you Ford fans can whinge and moan – but the fact is, rules cannot be changed just because a Ford guy didn’t win. Kelly got the penalty, end of story. It doesn’t matter if that same incident occurred between two nobodies fighting for 24th place, the same penalty applies, no matter what is at stake.
I know Ford fans will have a big sulk about it, but the fact is, Mr Kelly was penalised, he paid for his crime and still emerged as rightful champion. Perhaps Ford should build less fragile cars.
