Honda to go Green?
February 14th 2007 00:01
There are unconfirmed reports circulating the internet that Honda F1 are planning to ditch their traditional white/red/black colour scheme for an all-green livery.
Planetf1.com reports tthat the team has opted for this radical paint-job under the advice from Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment agency.
The idea is to promote Honda's environmental image, as the first car company to produce a hybrid car (the Insight) and with many more innovations to come.
While painting the cars green will help fans distinguish the Hondas from the umpteen other white cars, it's doubtful whether the message will really get across.
When one comes to think about it, all the hard work and effort put into protecting an environmental image is undone once Jenson Button flexes his big toe.
When Honda cars come into the pits to recieve 90-odd litres of fuel, fans will be told by pitlane commentators that it should last him around 27 laps, guzzling more fuel in 30 minutes than a fleet of Insights do in a week.
If green Honda's do make an appearance at one or all Grands Prix, their marketing department might wish to grab the rights to a possible Hulk sequel, as F1 is not the ideal arena for advertising environmental awareness.
