Heidfeld ‘excited’ by BMW pace

BMW driver Nick Heidfeld believes his team has what it takes to make it all the way to the top.
After three races, the experienced German sits second in the WDC, only two points behind series leader Kimi Raikkonen.
The team meanwhile have caused quite a few heads to turn, after defying their winter testing pace, by racing in close company with Ferrari and McLaren.
The Hinwill based squad lead the constructor’s championship by one point over defending champions Ferrari.
Given the impressive development progress over the winter, BMW head into the Barcelona test confident of taking more strides towards the front.
Heidfeld was asked by ITV is BMW could in fact close the gap over the course of the season.
"Well normally, I'd say no," said the 30-year old, "Even with a good development programme that finds maybe 0.5s by the end of the season compared to the beginning, everyone else is normally doing the same, so the gap remains pretty much constant and you never quite get there.”
"But now, after what I've seen since the winter tests, I'm not sure. Maybe we can. I'm pretty excited by that," he said.
