Fisichella keen to remain at Renault

Giancarlo Fisichella expressed his wish to remain with Renault next year, but wants the team to decide “very soon”.
The Italian has driven for the French team for the past three seasons, but has languished against teammates, Fernando Alonso, who won two World Driver’s Championships in 2005 and 2006, and now rookie Heikki Kovalainen who currently leads Fisichella on the ladder, 19 points to 17.
Fisichella was highly optimistic of title success this season when Alonso left for McLaren, however without even a podium to his name, those failed aspirations have left the 34-year-old to think hard about his future plans.
Speaking about his lack of success this season, Fisichella told the official Formula One website: “I am a professional driver and I took the car I was given and worked my hardest to make it go. I cannot do much more than that!”
However, despite the team not living up to his expectations this season, the three-time grand prix winner made it clear that his desire is to stay with Renault in 2008.
“My contract is with Renault but the team has to choose very soon if I will be re-confirmed or not, he said,
“Personally, I would like to stay because I have worked very hard and made very few mistakes.”
Fisichella is still positive that Flavio Briatore’s squad can return to race-winning form next season.
“Renault has already stated very clearly that all its efforts are now concentrated on designing its 2008 car,” he said “We have no more development coming to us to try to close the gap this season.”
As for whether he knows what exactly Renault are planning for next year in terms of their driver line-up, Fisichella replied bluntly: “That is a question for Renault to answer!”
