Ferrari unhappy with verdict

Ferrari have issued a statement detailing their dissatisfaction after McLaren-Mercedes escaped punishment at yesterday’s extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in Paris.
McLaren were found guilty of breaching article 151c of the Sporting regulations for possessing confidential Ferrari documents, but due to insufficient evidence, could not be proven guilty for using the information for an unfair advantage, and walked away with only a warning.
“Ferrari finds it incomprehensible that violating the fundamental principle of sporting honesty does not have, as a logical and inevitable consequence, the application of a sanction,” read Ferrari’s statement.
“Today’s decision legitimises dishonest behaviour in Formula 1 and sets a very serious precedent,” it said.
Ferrari pointed out that had it not been for a lucky tip-off, McLaren would still be in possession of the documents.
“This is all the more serious as it has occurred in a sport like Formula 1 in which small details make all the difference,” said Ferrari.
“Ferrari feels this is highly prejudicial to the credibility of the sport.”
Ferrari also confirmed that it will continue to press legal action through the Italian criminal justice system and in the civil court in England.
