Ferrari, McLaren, BMW and Renault’s new contenders

January 25th 2007 02:18
f1centre unfortunately was absent during the last week, when several teams launched their 2007 cars. But here is a quick recap of the mid-January launches.

Ferrari

Ferrari launched their new car on the 14th of January, with Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa presenting the gleaming new F2007 in Ferrari's home base at Maranello. Peter Sauber described the F2007 as "the most innovative", while driver, Felipe Massa described it as "beautiful". Ferrari hope their unique blend of beauty and innovation will regain them the title that Renualt took from them in 2005.Gallery

Mclaren

The next day McLaren showed off their new car, the MP4-22, as well as two completely new drivers in defending world champion, Fernando Alonso and the much-hyped British rookie (and GP2 champion) Lewis Hamilton. The new Vodafone liveried car was presented to a media throng in Valenica, keen to eyeball the new McLaren's so-called "advanced concepts".

BMW then unveiled their contender, the F1.07 on the 16th in Valencia .Proud boss, Mario Theissen was hesitant to predict any wins in 2007, but said that the team was aiming for more podiums and that wins were the aim for 2008. 2007 marks a transition year for BMW, with the completion of the building upgrade at the old Sauber factory in Hinwil due, as well as an increase in the workforce, to 430 people. Rave drivers Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica were accompanied by test drivers, Timo Glock and 19-year old prodigy, Sebastian Vettel.
